Hi, the static host cache isn't giving me many hosts - 1 or two every hour or two. And they usually don't stick, so usually the host cache is the only host on my list.

It is obviously passing my search requests far and wide, because I get a lot of decent search results and upload occaisionally, but I think ultimately we need some better software for a cache.

I wonder if you can try several different clients and see if different ones give away more hosts?

Do you really believe through recompiling a client and setting this thread you can solve all of our problems?

and: do you think this IRC channel is the only thing we have at the moment?

    No, there's already much more.
There's a new community waking up.
People like Moak, Morgwen, godxblue(peeranha), KathW, raphael, oovermars (gnucleus), tremix, etc, etc, etc are there and it will be much more in the future!

    Then, there's a mailing list.

Also, godx started (and continued!) with an improved protocol.
And Moak's 0.7 proposal is in discussion

if you'd be on this IRC channel, you would know that, and you'd not be alone trying something

I don't want to further influence you. Do what you believe. If you think it's best splitting the network into gnutella and opensource, do that, in my opinion, the new GnutellaDev Community (name is 90% sure) will be more efficient than the old Vinnie-ruled GDF where the "improvements" are like monarchy (eat or die)...

i think you should at least have a try

There are still compatible to the Gnutella network!

Perhaps the creator of this network want to add something?

No offense to any of you OpensourceP2P guys/gals, but it just seems funny to me that for a network of users that want to distance themselves from the Gnutella network, you still insist on using the *Gnutella* Forums as a discussion ground. Shouldn't you at least try to get your own forums?

Oh I have no doubt it's compatible with the Gnutella network. Aside from a few wording changes, the protocol is darn near the same. It would be rather unusual, however, after taking the initiative to start their own network because of the proposed problems they see in the Gnutella network, that they would care to make sure their clients were still compatible with the Gnutella network. As of yet, there doesn't seem to be a bridge between the two networks and I'm sure the originators of the OpensourceP2P network would like to keep it that way. After all, bridging the two networks would once again open up their network to the problems they were seeking to avoid to begin with! So, in other words, it sounds to me like they're gone and not coming back. Hence my question as to why they're still continuing to use the Gnutella Forums as their forums as well.

    joe..... another bearshare lover
why does bearshare still use the gnutella network when everything on their site says its the bearshare network?
why does bearshare try to hide the other clients names on the screen? wouldn't want you to know that there were free, no spam clients out there now would we?
why do university networks not let normal gnutella clients connect within their private lan?
bearshare has its own forums, maybe you should stay over there
