I was at the barn the other day and my friends horse nipped me hard on the upper arm, so I did what I have always been taught to do and swatted him on the nose.
My friend got very angry and told me just to shake my finger at him and say "no." but I don't think this is very effective because he nips ALL the time. He's really dangerous to the little kids that take lessons at my barn.

(I never have hit my horses hard, but I think that when a 100+ pound animal starts getting pushy and dangerous, you should be firm with them.)

What discipline techniques do you use and how effective are they?
If there is a better technique out there, I want to know about it, so I can start using it!
I didnt say anything about putting something in my horses mouth ... ?
Lol I've only made a horse think I was going to kill it once and that was when one of the riding academy horses that is regularly used by little kids picked me up with his teeth and threw me across the barn. I don't tolerate poorly behaved, dangerous horses, but especially not ones that little kids ride!
