Also, found the dialogue between JD and his Dad really interesting. What was the reason for that?

Their dialogue was astonishing -- each of them speaking in the voice of the other; both making strange, unpredictable comments about the wife/mother. What I took from it was that JD had had a dysfunctional home life, to say the very least, for years before he came to the school.

Contrast that with the cosy, "mmm, nice pate..." scenes involving Winona Ryder and her parents.

In fact, the parents were weirder than the kiRAB, if anything. ("I love my dead, gay son...")
