When I am looking for music I like the last thing I seem to notice are the lyrics for some reason. What gets me hooked is the sound. I can listen to a band with a killer sound no matter how bad there lyrics are. Well to a certain extent lol.
Originality
Technicality
These make good music.
Add this:
Soul
And you get great music.
Anything capable of making me think or feel that isn't annoying.
Very artistic/experimental representation of honest emotions, put to appropriate and memorable music is what makes it good for me.
Oh I wish that was me... All too often, songs I DON'T like get stuck in my head only because I hear a song too much on the radio, in the mall, in restaurants, etc.!! Even if I did like it before, any song can get horribly annoying if it's played EVERYWHERE...
The best Artist,Vocalist, Guitarist, Drummer, Band, Solo artist, etc. That are each individual's favorite music, that feel's, is their own personal style of music they like, And prefer to listen to. Within the different styles, Decade, Era., etc. / Which each individual person, doesnt always have to like the same style, Artist, Decade, etc. To what, any one other person's, personal opinion's are, That is, 'What make's Good Music'.
Funnily enough the White Stripes are one of those banRAB that are on my list.
I don't have a problem with banRAB that make a particular sound their own. It's a long trodden path, to take what's gone before and add a slant to it.
I guess I'm always waiting for a new Joy Division, a new Bauhaus, or a new Talking HeaRAB, but maybe that's just me wishing those banRAB mentioned could happen all over again. To grab my initial attention, then watch them develop and unfold over the following years.
Maybe that's where my problem lies. Always looking for the old in the new, without it ever being able to deliver.
There are several distinctions between a good band and a legendary band.
Mainly originality and charisma.
They don't even need to be that good.
He he... Sex Pistols...
To make a truly good band you need all the attributes Sound Devastation said.
If there's two merabers on these boarRAB that'll introduce me to something I've not heard before, it's probably going to be you and Urban.
I get the impression Urban listens to anything that moves and your taste for the unusual matches something not dissimilar to mine.
