Saw the specialist last week and asked him about lpr. He shrugged and said it was just GERD higher in the esophogus. What I've been reading on the medical sites about it, is that the treatment is double dose (80mg if nexium) for up to 6 months depending on how much damage. I've also read that damage to the esophagus takes a long time to heel - don't know how to quantify long. I've found that with me, I'm the type of person that takes some time (30ish days) to see effects of PPIs, though I've noticed almost immediate reduction in upper stomach upset. I'm only guessing, but I believe what your feeling is a sore and/or swelling. Issue is the LES (valve at top of stomach) has been damaged by the acid and until it heels, excess acid will make it higher to the UES. There's intersting medical sites out with some ugly videos.
Nexium has seemed to work the best, but truthfully, it's the only one that I've stayed with for that long of a time. My GP (and the specialist) only gave any one of the drugs a couple weeks before switching, then finally giving up and staying on Nexium.

I get to get scoped again next week. Specialist only said it (PPI) should have worked faster and scheduled the procedure. He's probably just covering his butt, but rather do it than risk letting something like cancer go longer. I have been noticing some improvement though extremely slow. That burning sensation in my throat as I breath out has gone away in the last couple days. My throat doesn't instantly go sore if I lean back on my left side. Problem now is I have a major head cold so I'm going to need to give it a couple days, but as long as there's improvement, that's good.
