X-box live guys halp me!11!!

So when i just bought an x-box live account for 3 months. I booted up gears of war, was playing about 5-6 matches, then i try to connect to another one under custom matches and it never finds me one. And then i try to host my own, it goes to loading screen, and then it comes right back to the game type setup. I also tried madden 07 and Rainbow Six: Vegas, both do the same thing and can never find me matches nor can i find custom matches. WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS PIECE OF SHIT X-BOX LIVE. Why can't it be simple like counter-strike/steam

Well I wouldn't complain, because LAST time live went down for like 3 hours, and they didn't tell anyone, which they didn't this time, they added a DAY to everyones sub so we didn't lose money. It was a nice thing
