I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3L AFM equipped iron block engine. A friend of mine saw that I was changing my oil and made a comment warning me that I need to use a special oil for the cylinder deactivation. He couldn't recall the type/name, so I shrugged it off. I have used Mobil 1 Full Syn and Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filters since the first oil change. I go about 7,000 miles between changes and I haven't had any issues as of now. I tried to find information for what he was talking about and all I found were people complaining of their AFM engines consuming oil... I poured my used oil back into the empty containers and found that in 7,500 miles my truck possibly (didn't drain it all out, spilled some) "consumed" less than 1/4 of a quart which is far better than some stories I saw of consuming 1 quart every 1-2k miles...
My question is, does anyone know what special oil my friend would be referring too?
Truck currently has ~42,XXX miles
