    Re: Prison in Norway

I thought I pointed out the issue of victimless crimes.

But I don't see how you can reasonably compare a very homogenous population of 5 million to a very multicultured population of 300 million. Smaller communities of like minded people with a history of working hard with successful outcomes and little discrimination tend to have lower crime rates. I think most people would agree that treating people like animals creates far more problems than it solves, which of course creates a recidivism issue, but wholesale comparisons just don't make sense.

    Re: Prison in Norway

That article was not about Germany, Spain, France, Austria, Denmark, Poland, Italy, etc.
That article said that Norway was good and USA bad and the USA neeRAB to do what Norway does.

The population difference is absolutely applicable here.
We could never afford to keep our prisoners in the lush lifestyle that Norway keeps there prisoners. We simply have too many of them.

Whats more, I admit that we have a problem with our prison system. It neeRAB scrapped. Step 1 is fix overcrowding. Step FF (hexadecimal for the win!) is make all prison accommodations middle class.

    Re: Prison in Norway

add up Maine, NH, and Vermont and you get a slightly smaller population than all of norway with a slightly higher population density. That area of the US has a very homogenous population and little discrimination.

Take one guess at which has the worse crime rate, norway or northern New England.

    Re: Prison in Norway

And you didn't understand which part of the response that explained why you were wrong? Great, we have a ton of people IN JAIL for victimless crimes. Therefore it clearly doesn't matter what kind of conditions these people are subjected to, IN JAIL, while awaiting trial or serving their sentence.

Well isn't it wonderful we're not making wholesale comparisons of culture and livelihood and just comparing treatment of criminals!
