We are trying to decide between a new Toyota Corolla and a new Toyota RAV4.

I can't seem to find a clear answer on which one is safer, though. I'd assumed the RAV4 would be safer, but some sites seem to be saying the Corolla has higher ratings. Still, I can't figure out if this means "Corolla is safer than other cars its size" but maybe it isn't comparable because the cars aren't in the same category.

Anyhow, how can I find out definitively, which car is one more likely to be safe in, in a crash?
I'm puzzled that the RAV4 does not show up on the IIHS list of safety picks, but the Corolla does: http://iihs.org/ratings
