one would expect as the field umpires would be closer to the action and see more, that standards would have improved since the days of one central umpire. I still remember central umpires such as glenn James, i realise the game is faster now, but in my opinion standards have fallen away dramatically since those days of glenn. how often have you seen an umpire only a few yards from the action do nothing , and yet another umpire 50 yards away will blow his whistle and award a free, your opinion, have standards improved or sadly have they deteriorated.
also, does any field umpire stand out in your memory, as being the best at his trade, as glenn James does for me. maybe he was a one off. but he was the fairest and most accurate in my memory, and was always in total control
