What are the main qualities of a Good Friend?

My "friends" seem to do nothing more that simply use me and toss aside when they're done...
What am I doing wrong?

I treat them the way I'd like to be treated in return - I give them my loyalty, time and sincere huge effort in anything I attempt. Sick and tired of being a door mat...
Majority of them are Christians - preach so highly, but at the end won't move a finger if I to ask them for help...

Is there any way to put a stop to being used and grow more healthy friendships?
