The Haggai Sophia was originally built as a church. Then it got converted to a mosque when the Muslims took over. Now it's a museum.
Times change, but when you see something you appreciate, you just appreciate it.
The Muslims couldn't bring themselves to tear it down, so they converted it instead. And then they built the Blue Mosque just in order to rival it's creators.
This sharing of wisdom and culture and, yes, technology as well is what has allowed humanity to progress. The ancients were open to new ideas just as we are today. And when they saw an idea they liked, they borrowed it and re-invented as one of their own creations, occasionally improving on the original creation.
It's just like when you see something you like in someone else's possession. They thought these things were useful so they took them and assimilated them. They came into contact through trade, conflict, etc. and learned of the new ideas that way.
