    why do female preachers discourage their followers from discussing these...

    ...verses'1cor.14:34-35'? 1Cor.14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

    35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

    Normally I wouldn't bother answering an obsessive spammer, but I just constructed this response to a legitimate questioner regarding these same verses;

    Dragging this verse out in an attempt to discredit Christianity is another example of incorrect Biblical exegesis as well as an ineffective challenge to the faith.

    The Church teaches that created in the image and likeness of God every human being is fundamentally good, every human life is a precious gift from God, and regardless of race, colour, creed or gender for that matter every human being deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. This is Catholic dogma, it leaves no room for a misogynist mindset. Anyone concluding that Orthodox Christianity is discriminatory using the scriptures is not exercising correct Biblical exegesis.

    Correct Biblical exegesis requires an understanding that the text can be considered in several senses.

    Firstly there is the Literal sense (this does not imply every word be considered as literal but rather, "What is the text telling us?" "What would it be telling it's audience then?" Factoring in language, literary genre ie; law books, poetic/hymn books, apocalyptic etc. and customs)

    Secondly there are 3 other senses that may be considered;

    * The Allegorical sense: How the text relates to Christ.
    * The Moral sense: How does the text fit into my spiritual growth.
    * The Anagogical sense: How does this text relate to the future/heaven.

    Also the Scriptures are to be considered in their entirety and "Christologically" ie: through the lens of Christ.

    and finally any conclusions or theological precepts derived therefrom must not be in contradiction with any of the councils and creeds of Orthodoxy, anything that was would indeed be unorthodox.
