What are people like in the educated, progressive cities along the east coast?

Like, Cambridge Massachusetts?

Im from Seattle and interested in the East Coast. People here are very laid back, not serious, not snooty, not arrogant, and I love those qualities. Here you wouldn't be able to tell who's rich and who's not.

What are people like (and life in general) in those progressive, highly educated east coast cities? Will they judge me if I don't have an expensive phone or expensive clothes?
Is there something wrong with saying people are progressive and educated? They are always blue states and there are statistics on their education. Why just leave a stupid and comment without contributing anything?
