What if there was no Chase for the Nextel/Sprint Cup championship?

Would Jimmie Johnson have three straight Cup titles? Would Jeff Gordon have more than four Cup titles?

If there was no Chase for the Sprint/NEXTEL Cup then:

    2004 - Jeff Gordon (5th Championship)
2005 - Tony Stewart (2nd Championship) (as he did)
2006 - Jimmie Johnson (1st Championship) (as he did)
    2007 - Jeff Gordon (6th Championship)
    2008 - Carl Edwards (1st Championship)
2009 - Tony Stewart (3rd Championship) (as of right now)
