...no kids.? Is there anyway as an Independent Student I can qualify for 0 efc. What is the AGI that I should shoot for (15k-20k)?

24 year old independent student…
Less than 4k in income for the year, but I received 20k in a settlement, which is taxable. I will need to pay Uncle same over 3k of my settlement and most of it went to payoff car and personal debt for myself and my parents. My parents can not contribute to my education cost.

I’ve been going over my tax info and laws and I’m trying to get my AGI low to in turn get my EFC low or zero… Any thoughts?

My parents filed bankruptcy so they can not cosign for a student loan and I am aware of all the FFELP loan options. I’m mostly focus on my efc so I can increase my PELL and FSEOG eligibility.
