    How does a 999R compare to a 1098 or 1098S?

I've been thinking of getting a 1098S but have noticed a few 999R's for sale and I wondered how good these are. Are they as good as a 1098 or better? Was the 1098 such a massive improvement over the 999 that it seriously outperforms even a 999R with all its trick expensive parts? Thanks in advance.

    How does a 999R compare to a 1098 or 1098S?

Here is a quote from Ducati's website. "With the first twist of the wrist, the powerful rush of the Testastretta Evoluzione engine confirms that the rules have changed. The 848's 134 hp is not only 30% more powerful than its predecessor, but it provides a power-to-weight ratio even better than the potent 999. The 848—a new class of Superbikes." They compare the 999 to the 848. Never mind the 1098. I am sure this upsets 999 owners but when Ducati makes this comparison, who am I to say different. Get the 1098.

    How does a 999R compare to a 1098 or 1098S?

    848>>>>999,
    1098>848
    1098S>1098
    1098R>1098S

    Therefore,
Any TE engined bike will pwn a 999

    How does a 999R compare to a 1098 or 1098S?

I had a 1098S Tri and yes, it is faster than a 999R. But to me the riding position was so uncomfrtable I had to sell it with as little as 520 miles on the clock. Compared the two, the 999 is top heavier, at slow speed it feels much heavier than the 1098; that all goes away when you start hitting the throttle, at that point it seems more stable; at least to me at 100 it felt like I had crosswind on the 1098 when on the 999 feels way more linear, like riding a bullet. The 999 offers seating adjustments and rake degree positioning that the 1098 doesn't have. The 1098 is all plastic when on the 999R is all, except for the tail piece, Carbon Fiber.
After that is all about the look, either you love it or hate it; myself I found the riding position on the 1098 as you were riding on top of the bike when on the 999 is in the bike, like I'm channeled into it.
I absolutely love the 999 but I also miss the 1098, who knows, if I spent a little more time tuning the suspension, I'd probably would still have it!

    How does a 999R compare to a 1098 or 1098S?

    I don't see a 998R written anywhere, am I going blind?
I was talking about the R version in my post, I just didn't specify R the whole time!
    And thanks!

    How does a 999R compare to a 1098 or 1098S?

999R has just about as much grunt as a base 1098. What you feel on the 1098 is top end a little more speed (think). Riding position on the 999R is more "in" the bike vs. 1098 a little more "on," though not like with an I4 (I had an MV Agusta F4R).

    Just my opinion...
