Sounds like you want it both ways. To be perceived as edgy by one side but a regular joe by the other. Pick a team and stick with it.

people in this world are sometimes ignorant. the color of any ones skin should not be an issue. its what inside that counts. the people who treat you differently have personal issues. it has nothing to do with you. just continue to be who you are. maybe their encounter with you will help them out. if their is nothing wrong with you as a person don't worry about it. you cant worry about others people, but you can make sure you are a good person.

Embarrass them in front of their friends. Say something like "Why did you move your bag? Is it because I am @@@@@? Let's ask someone else what they think of what you just did" etc. etc. If you get any flak from your boss insist he record the ` incident` in whatever passes as an Incident book where you are and tell him you expect compensation if he allows such abuse to go unchallenged or to continue.. That'll frighten him.. Make sure every one within earshot hears what has occurred. Point out the offender. Embarrass them man!

At the malls in my area, you would not notice this type of thing happening. Do you work in a "high brow" elitist type of store or what?

In The Phoenix, Az area, I would be more leary of the Emo's than the blacks.

They fear African Americans. It's their problem, not yours. Chalk it up to ignorance.

Stereotypes have brought many people to think of blacks as thieves. There is nothing you can do about it, the rest of society needs to change before those stereotypes will change.
