What date was Jane Austen's "Pride & Prejudice" set in?

I mean, I know it was published in like 1811 or something, but was it set in an earlier date? Like how some now will write about the 1950's nowadays even though it's the 21st century. Get what I mean?

I think Jane Austen first started writing it around 1797, which is the time period she intended it to took place in. Not really sure though.
