Best ending to a film of all time *spoilers*

Looking for stuff a little different. I'm well aware that the end of Spartacus is iconic, and the end of Life of Brian is genius paradoy, but maybe something a little different. Heaven forbid a good modern film??

Off the back of finding out there was three endings to The Butterfly Effect last night. I'd seen the directors cut where Ashton Kutcher goes back in the old grainy movie, and chokes himself in the womb, but my bias in music made me love the theatrical ending I saw last night.

Evan (Ashton Kutcher) sacrifices his love for Kayleigh (Amy Smart) by going back to the memory of first meeting her as children, and scaring her away so that Kayleigh never became part of his life, and she grew up happy and successful-though now they never knew each other. Pretty basic, but the ending is where 'Stop Crying your Heart out' starts to play in the background, as they pass each other in the street, stop and look at each other. And as she walks away, he turns and follows her, and end.

Difficult to explain really, because it sounRAB s**t written down, but anyone who's seen it will know what I mean. Good film, topped off with a brilliant ending, perfect music, quality acting and slightly creepy to boot.

arlington road was a pretty average film, but the denouement was fantastic.

best ending ever has to be the original dutch version of the vanishing.

beat me to it - birdy is one of my favourite films ever.

Best ending to a film of all time *spoilers*

"One of my favourite film endings belongs to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. From the outset, a bullet-ridden ending appears inevitable, but writer William Goldman (whose script won a best screenplay Oscar) and director George Roy Hill craft their tragic finale so deftly that death seems like a triumph. As the scene freezes and the sound continues, and we realise this time Paul Newman's Butch and Robert Redford's Sundance won't be making yet another of their improbable getaways, they are immortalised."

..... and the real Butch and Sundance lived on well into the 20th Century .....

I must admit, I loved The Butterfly Effect, one of the best films I have ever seen.

I think the best film endings for me are: Grease, Shawshank Redemption and Dirty Dancing.

Also, the girly part of me loves the end of Dumbo and The Little Mermaid (sorry).

For me it is the Sixth Sense. Got to the end of that and it was just a case of "Woooooaaaahhhhh!" - very, very clever.

Seven is the only film I've been in a cinema for that had people cheering the conclusion.

As a previous poster mentioned, Terminator 3 has a really cool, clever ending, which really surprised me.... shame about the previous 100 minutes!

the second one has a too similar ending to the first IMO though. but they are both really good films.

Loved the ending of Lock Stock where it finishes with a shot of him reaching over the side of the bridge with the phone in his mouth trying to grab the guns, so your never totally sure if the other guys managed to get through to him or not.

End of Se7en is a classic too.
