Looking for people's favorite solos, any instrument, any genre. I'll kick it off with the sax solo on Billy Joel's New York State of Mind. Figured there would be a thread like this already, but i searched and found kaput...

They could really take a lesson from Crass' "The Sound of Free Speech" in that song.
It's cliche but:

Guitar: Final solo on Noveraber Rain (Guns n' Roses)
Bass: Probably Metropolis Pt. 1 (Dream Theatre)
Piano: Dance of Eternity (Dream Theatre)
Pink Floyd - Comfortably nurab. definitly my favorite solo ive ever heard, not necessarilly that difficult just simply amazing.
Guns n roses - Dont cry tonight, at the end of his solos he makes the guitar cry. just listen for it. also if you know what slash is doing, hes using the feedback switch on his guitar to sustain certain notes and give them a different sound than the others. if you really listen you can hear when he turns it on throughout his solos.
Jimi hendrix - Voodoo Chile. NOT CHILD. CHILE - EEEEE.
Metallica - Shortest Straw. not really my favorite song and i never really thought kirks solos were very good but this one is just awesome. definitly the best metal solo i think ive heard. its just so different and cool and he has some awesome ideas.

^ Best guitar solo ever from about 2:00-2:40
Always loved that track. It totally makes Aladdin Sane
Thanks everyone for posting; I'm getting a lot of good listening ideas here. Might start a similar thread in the jazz forum to see what kind of non bass/guitar/drum solos I can find.
