Thread: What is normal gas mileage for a 1990 ford f150 351? do the egr valves tend to go bad?

I seem to only be getting about 8 and i know that pretty bad but it is a big motor. Could my timing be what is causing me to get bad gas mileage? My check engine light comes on everytime i get on the gas and i was wondering if maybe that was my egr valve? Thanks for any insight

you should be getting about 12 mpg, but depends on your driving habits and state of tune of the engine as well as tire pressure etc. check engine light needs to have code checked to see what is setting code. a mechanic with a scanner can tell even if a code is not hard set.

You should be getting around 12 in the city and 16 on the highway...
