I've noticed that on many books, the author's name is much larger than the title of the book. It might make sense if the author the was famous, but most of these are unknowns or little-knowns. Why is this?

Book covers are designed to grab your eye and direct you to what the publishers feel is likely to get you to buy the book. Authors usually have little say in book cover design. They probably print a relatively unknown author's name large in order to convince you that they ARE well known.
its there becuz most people list and find books by the author and if you work in a book store(i have) it makes it a lot easier but like you said there little known and there trying to get out there hope that helps
