Is it ok to have the sticky part of a band-aid on my wound?

This is something I never understood as a kid. If it's ok to have the sticky part on your wound, what's up with that middle part? It doesn't even stick to you, so how is it helping to heal you?

Who told you it was ok? You don't want the sticky part on your wound because not only will it really hurt coming off, but have you ever noticed the adhesive residue left on your skin after you have had the band-aid on for a while? Do you really want that on whatever wound you have? Sounds like infection to me.
