Many stories from the Old Testaments, especially the Great Flood, were copied from the Sumer tablets. The stories of the Old Testaments were supposedly the stories of an oppressed group of people, and hence there was a need to find some spiritual strength from a deity to help those people to cross the hurdles and obstacles they were facing.

In contrast, we can take note of the comparison to the Chinese civilisation. It had been a very strong and dominant civilisation. As a race, and as a group of people, not oppressed by other races, there was never a need to invoke a divine figure to give spiritual inspiration and motivation for them to overcome the obstacles. Therefore, the civilisation had thrived through 5000 years without any need for it to be a theological state. *Taoism, Buddhism, Jesus sutra (earliest form of Christianity to arrive into China), Islam entered into China at various times of its history, but none were ever enforced as state religion, nor was there ever a compulsion for its citizens to adopt any of these religions.
