    Powder coat and pin stripe?

Has anyone had any experience with powder coating wheels at all.? I was looking at powdercoating my 996 wheels black with a red pin stripe like the 1098s. Obviously you would need to powder coat black first and then apply the pin stripe either by painting or a sticker?? I would appreciate any help or advise. thanks, Rob.

    Powder coat and pin stripe?

But a) I know someone who can do it and b) Wouldn't your wheel would become heavier by powder coating? If so that would be bad...

    Powder coat and pin stripe?

Well here's the question. If he's racing and at the level of racing were less than a pound come into play then yes it's bad. But if it's just for looks then go for it. The issue with powder coating the wheel is getting them clean. they usually want to dip the wheels in a cleaner so you have to take out the bearings and maybe replace them. which may not be a bad thing.

    Powder coat and pin stripe?

I've had lots of wheels powder coated and would highly recommend it. You will need to have the bearings taken out as most powder coating places sand blast or (preferably) glass blast the old paint off before primer-ing and coating the wheels. You will need to make sure no smooth unpainted surfaces are glass or sand blasted, specially the inner core where the bearings mount and also the sides where the disc break and/or sprocket mount. In other words, anything that is smooth or shiny should be taped and not blasted or coated. I would try to find a place that has powder coated wheels before. Hope this helps.

    Powder coat and pin stripe?

Guys, thanks so much for your help. Weight gain is not really an issue, i just really like the look. I will do some research and look for someone who has done wheels before. The whole thing sounds quite expensive !!$$$ What the hell eh !!

    Powder coat and pin stripe?

So how durable is powder coating anyways? I really like the look, but does it chip easy?

Does extra special care need to be taken when re-mounting the tires?
