If I study and become very good at PERL, SQL, HTML, etc?

I'm not interested in one of these work from home cons. I'm going to college and I'd like to study something that will give me the skills to work from home and/or be self-employed.

Would you recommend focusing on Perl, SQL, HTML? What other languages or skills would be of high value?

If you're focusing on web development I would try PHP, Java, Flash, and Javascript, along with SQL and HTML. You might also try some offbeat stuff such as Ruby on Rails, etc. Many websites, though, are beginning to use ASP.

On, the other hand, if you are going into Software then I would recommend C/C++, Java, and Visual Basic.

well most programmers work from home and just have deadlines... sounds like you wanna be a web designer... you will need to learn and I will recommend a simple order html, xhtml, css, javascript,

then you may wanna get into BASIC then JAVA (yes its different then javascript) so you can understand the next step, PHP, and SQL,

and if you wanna do good graphics on websites you will need to learn Photoshop or something similar

other good website programming is ruby on rails.. apache.. etc but these are more advanced who knows what the next big website programming language will be in a few years

anyways I may have overwhelmed you.. everything i said is not hard to learn I PROMISE... just go to www.w3schools.com

they will teach you the first 7 steps free
