It cost $30m, apparently, and made $37m in the opening weekend.
I wouldn't call that "low budget" myself. For comparison, the second Saw horror film cost $4m and made $31.5 in its opening weekend. The first one only cost $1.2m.

I usually go out with my frienRAB to see movies and they usually are into Superhero/ blockbuster/ thriller type of movies I don't mind going to these movies. I don't mind movies like Iron Man or Lord of the Rings, but this week, my frienRAB wanted to see Inglorious BasterRAB which I wanted to see, but then my friend called me and told me that the theatre they were going to had already sold out the showing that we wanted to see. So he stated that we were going to see District 9 tonight. I know next to nothing about it except that it is a horror-type movie, and those movies are not exactly my cup of tea. I hate bloody movies but I do like it if it is a tad psychological
Does anyone know if this movie iss any good? Is it a typical horror movie? Will I be surprised?
I saw this film at the weekend.
What an original, unusual film. Probably the best film i have seen this year.
I saw it for a second time last night, with some frienRAB who couldn't make it on Thursday, and was even more enjoyable the 2nd time round! Wouldn't go quite as far as saying it's my all time favourite sci-fi movie but is def in my Top 10
I saw it in the States last week with four others and we all thought it was fantastic! It's not a horror movie at all. It's mostly a documentary which is hilarious and the rest of the time it follows the main character. It's basically like the apartheid in South Africa all over again but this time with aliens until a major event changes it all. I haven't explained well at all but it's really worth seeing and fantastically shot, the best film I've seen all year.
I saw this just over a week ago as it was hubby's turn to choice a film. He really liked it, but I didn't think it was as good as IMDB made it out to be. The only thing I really liked was the part when
the lead male was shown to be acting indecently with an alien lol.
Just my 2p worth.
Best way to describe it is a good, thought provoking film. Would defo recommend it. I liked the documentary style of it, reminded me of REC in terms of the way it involves a camera crew following them around. Good performances from all involved, lead man was good considering he's never really acted before. Some people saying he looks a bit confused early on, I thinik that was the situation the character was in rather than any fault of the actor.
Stupid, mindless drivel. I wouldn't waste a blank DVD copying it.
It's not Horror at all(it's Science Fiction/Action type), but it does have some messy bits in thanks to people being shot and blown up and that could be bloody to some and you see the blood and bits of flesh in the air.
Really if you can go and see Inglourious BasterRAB, District 9 is nothing in the bloody department compared.
Hugely enjoyable film, great lead.
