    OT Update on cat

The new dose of thyroid medicine seemed to kick in right away. Her appetite
is HUGE! The vet gave me a free can of Purina kidney diet to try. We had
already tried it and she wouldn't eat a bite of it. Well she ate the whole
large can of it yesterday. She also ate a whole can of the Royal Canin. So
three servings of food. We have been putting one dish where we normally do
and another near where she sleeps.

This morning I gave her a can of KD which she had not eaten at all prior.
She stuck her face right into it and began eating.

I did not have to put any gravy on her food at all. She ate only her
prescription cat food and quite a lot of it. So this is very good! She was
also awake for a longer amount of time yesterday. She stayed awake all the
way through the "Cutest Cats" show and seemed to enjoy it. She doesn't
    normally watch TV.

So thanks everyone for your help, but I don't think I'll be needing that
chicken fat any time soon now.

    OT Update on cat

i had to quit readint the thread because of time contraints so i am really
glad to read this, i never saw what meds she is on, but i can tell you that
OEJ has done better every time her has been adjusted, and the only poroblem
we have with her is that if she eats wet food she gives it back so she only
gets dry so her food and pill stay down, good luck, this is a hard combo of
issues to fight in a cat,

Thanks! Today we bought her another placemat so she can have a dish of food
near where she sleeps and we bought her a large water container to put there
too. She is very happy. She has been awake a lot more today too.

Saw a 15 pound cat at the pet store today. Was like a blob with a head.
Sad when cats get that fat. Maui was only 12 pounds at her fattest. She is
    half of that now.

Hypothyroid is common in certain breeds of dog. With a dog you can wrap
a pill in some meat and hand it to the dog. The meat is swallowed along
    with the pill. Problem solved.

Cats aren't as easy about getting them to take pills but my cat-person
friends never seem to have any trouble giving their cats shots.

    Glad to see the progress.

It's very easy to get cats to take pills when one uses a pill crusher.
I have one cat with thyroid disease, she gets synthroid salve rubbed
inside her ear twice daily. I have another cat that gets insulin
injections twice daily. I have never had a problem medicating cats,
when done correctly they don't even realize.

Luckily this is liquid medicine (triple fish flavored) and not pills. I
could get another flavor if I want. It is compounded. Normal procedure is
to squirt it into their mouth from a dropper, but I decided to try it in a
spoon. Normally she takes it quite well. Today she did not. If she does
not, I merely press the spoon to her lips where they get coated with the med
and if she wants to get it off, she has to lick it. Heh!

we are very luck with our cat that takes these meds, she has associated
feeling well with her pill, and if we are ten minutes late with it, everyone
hears about it until she gets it, its just a pill, and i mean she insists
very vocally until she gets it, she also most of the time hops up on the arm
of the couch and waits for dh to get it, why oh why did i think seven in
the morning was a good time for this pill, Lee

I think Maui knows her meds make her better too. She has been up a lot more
today. Not eating as much as she was, but frankly I think she was rather
    overdoing it!
