Isn't it funny what things make great sales pitches-- but when it
comes down to it, aren't worth the effort [to most of us] to study a
    manual?

That was a brain fart. The *first* thing I used was a cassette
adapter. The sound was great, but the Impala has some weird
auto-eject thing that just won't behave. [so if you have a 2000-2005
    GM you might have troubles]

I replaced it with a gadget that plugs into the lighter and the
headphone jack of the mp3 player. *That one* transmits using FM radio
waves. [about $10, I think] Usually fine- but not perfect.

It helps to have a 23 yr old audiophile in the house-- but just in
case you haven't seen it yet- Sansa has an excellent bunch of forums
    on their site-

[mine's a Sansa fuze- but I like it for the same reasons]

For the same reason MS *is* the best selling OS and Sony Betamax lost
    to VHS, marketing, baby.

Apple learned their marketing lesson well.

The Sansa players are mp3 players like the shuffle.

Granted, I don't have many 21st century songs on my player- but I've
only 'needed' to go to itunes 3 times in the past 5 yrs. [and
Amazon may still be the biggest new book retailer out there-- but
they've got plenty of competition these days]

I'm still in awe of my little Sansa player that sounds so much better
than the cassettes and 8-tracks I was 'raised on'- and can hold about
8000 songs that I can flip through by artist, album, genre, or title.

Amazon has an extensive collection of mp3's- emusic is getting
better-- and I got an 'all you can download' membership from
mp3panda.com for this year for $100. [normally $0? a year and
    15cents a song]

Apple is 'just another player' in the mp3 department these days.

Similar to my two run-ins with Apple, the first being with an Apple

using a full fledged Unix mainframe. The experience was much like
being told I hadda ride a Big Wheels while my adult Schwinn bicycle
was in the shop. The 2nd time wasn't much better. Fortunately, both
times were painful for less than 24 hrs.

Ain't that the truth? I bought a new car a year ago. I don't know how
to work the sound system, which is OK since I don't want to use it for
much. There must be three inches worth of manuals that came with the
car, of which about a half inch is for the sound system. There's no
room in the glove compartment for gloves! I got the standard sound
system, it didn't cost anything extra. It does AM/FM, CDs (including
MP3), satellite radio and you can hook in your MP3 player through the
center console, but control it from the dashboard. The satellite radio
came with a 90 day free subscription. We opted not to continue it. I
burned a couple of CDs from my computer. I planned to burn MP3s, but
didn't have enough music, so they are regular sound CDs. I checked to
see that they worked, but have never listened to them other than that.
Neither my wife nor I have MP3 players. The kids do, but they seldom
    use the car.

I've long ago concluded that Apple users are engaged in a sort
of continuous retail therapy. They actually like having their
money drained away on an ongoing basis. It makes them feel good
    to spend money.

I can relate to wanting to spend a little money unnecessarily for
a sort of psychological boost, but I try not to be so mindless
    and compulsive about it.
