Parents, do you believe that a saying in your neck of the woods is the only...

...variation of it? Example: I was raised getting jimmies on my ice cream whereas all my friends called them sprinkles. Jimmies was a term that was used in my parents home town.

I've lived in enough places where I know there are many different lingoes out there. However jimmies was a brand new one for me when I first heard it. There actually was an ice cream store called Jimmies and yummy! they put jimmies on all their cones.

The one that bugs my DH ALOT is around where I was raised we used the term "boughten". As in "I had just boughten a watermelon yesterday so we don't need another". IDK why, grammatically it makes no sense but that's what people say! It's a western PA thing I guess.

eta,,, oh and there was this news clip stating all the different ways to say a sandwich... like grinder, sub, hoagie. There were so many, like 8 different terms.

I think "in the neighborhood" could be an option. A few blocks radius was considered the neighborhood. Also, the houses on my side of the street also had an alley in the back dividing us from the other houses, so we also said stay 'within the three houses' and it was always understood what was meant
