Yes the survey thing is a scam, and almost every person on here who answers this question is going tell you a story about how they make money and then give you a link to their website. The reason they're making money is because they make more money by referring suckers like us to sign up. I did cashcrate.com and immediately regretted it. That's one of those survey sites. You have to give them your phone number and you have to give them your email address. Then based on how you answer the "survey", you will start getting hundreds (and I mean HUNDREDS) of junk emails. I don't know what question I answered that got me in this mailing list, but I keep getting emails to sign up for the Elvis newsletter (Huh???). I was on this website for over an hour and was never able to complete one survey. Every time I said no to a question, another window popped up with a new survey that I had to start before I could go back to the one I was doing. By the time I had 30 windows open, I said "screw it" and started closing them all. Then the rapid-fire pop-ups started, so I just shut down my computer. When I turned it back on, I immediately went back to cashcrate.com and can canceled my "membership".
There is a reason they call it "work". If you want to make money, you have to put in some effort. Yes, some jobs are easier than others, but you still have to be willing to "work" at it.
The only job I know of where you can legitimately make good money working from home is medical transcription, and you have to get certified first. You can pay anywhere from $600 to $2,000 to get certified, and once you do, you can then start working as a transcriptionist. When I looked into this, I found a company that finds jobs for certified transcriptionists, and if you're not certified, they will train you.
Once you start working, you can make anywhere from $10 - $20 an hour or more, but it depends on 2 things: 1. How fast you are. Apparently you are not paid an hourly rate, per se. You are paid by the page, so when you first start out, you will be a bit slower and will make less per hour. As you become more competent, you will get faster and be able to complete more pages. 2. Where you live. If you live in a larger metro area where there are more doctors and more demand for transcriptionists, you will make more money than you would if you live in a smaller, rural area. That said, my husband is a nurse and he said a doctor told him that they would pay more for someone who speaks English. Apparently the majority of the transcriptionists in our area do not speak English as their first language, so they have difficulty understanding what the doctors have written.
If you have a car, there are a ton of home based business you can do, such as Party Light Candles, Avon, Mary Kay, Lia Sophia (jewelry) Tastefully Simple (packaged gourmet foods)...the list goes on and on. But starting your own business means being your own boss, hiring and training your own employees and being your own marketing department. I started selling Lia Sophia back in October, but I work a full time job as well. I just don't have the extra time right now to do all of the above to make the business successful. I'm hoping that when my husband is done with school, I can work a parttime "day job" and put more effort into my business.
