'03 Buick Rendevous CX-May be a speed sensor problem I'm Told?

My '03 Rendevous CX runs great when traveling down the highway, but in town with starts/stops the transmission does not shift right. When this problem first appeared yesterday, I also noticed the speedometer does not work but the odometer does. No "Service Engine Light" comes on at any time. I have been told by Auto Zone that a Speed Sensor needs to be replaced. But which one, input/output? And is this truly the cause of the problem? Maybe one of you ASE certified techs can tell me? Thank you so much for your time.

Try another Auto Zone. The scanners are VERY specific about their findings. You can also get more information on the ALLDATA data base at most libraries. Or buy a Haynes manual specific for your Buick. Perhaps you should let a GM dealer examine it. There just MIGHT be a re-call or something that is actually FREE!! ALLDAT keep strack of recalls, also.
