When I sign in into my Facebook, a green dot will appear next to my profile in the chat for my online friends to see. But if I go to another web side without logging out of Facebook, will a half-moon appear in the Facebook chat indicating idle?

It simply detects when you've left the page. I'm pretty sure it does that for anyone. But it should switch back once you return to the page and/or refresh (aka click something).
