What is the minimum tank size to start a salt water aquarium with fish?

Just wondering and thinking about the future if I should or not.
and what are some extra things needed when caring for them? (besides salt..duh)

A 40 gallon or more would be good for a beginner starting a reef tank
But beware, your looking to spend up to 500-1000$
    You'd need alot of equipment,
    For ex.
    Filters,
    Skimmers
    Lighting
    Powerheads
    An extra sump tank
    30lb+ live rock.
    The fish!

Do you research, learn about them.
I gotta say though, its a really fun hobby
