What are the difference in The Beatles stereo and mono versions.?

Can someone please explain the difference between them. It seems to me people seem to be split between them to which is better. As I'm going to buy some albums I'm wondering which versions to buy...

they're releasing remasters of everything soon, if they haven't already, just get those.

I don't know how mono is suppose to be better than stereo though, I don't think I've ever even heard a mono studio recording before.
